If you provide more specific information on your needs, it might get you more
specific answers.

Buying a small block account would probably cover you for text groups for a
really long time. If you're doing binaries, there is a lot more to consider.

I use GigaNews for $5/month.

Web based forums are like subscribing to 10 different newspapers
and having to visit 10 different news stands to pickup each one.
Email list-server groups and USENET are like having all of those
newspapers delivered to your door every morning.
